# Use Confidence in Slack

> Ask about experiments, configure flags, and investigate product behavior with the Confidence agent in Slack.

export const HowToSchema = ({name, description, steps = []}) => {
  const schema = {
    "@context": "https://schema.org",
    "@type": "HowTo",
    name,
    description
  };
  if (steps.length > 0) {
    schema.step = steps.map((s, i) => ({
      "@type": "HowToStep",
      position: i + 1,
      name: typeof s === "string" ? s : s.name,
      text: typeof s === "string" ? s : s.text || s.name
    }));
  }
  return <script type="application/ld+json" dangerouslySetInnerHTML={{
    __html: JSON.stringify(schema)
  }} />;
};

<HowToSchema
  name="Use Confidence in Slack"
  description="Ask questions and work with Confidence resources from a Slack conversation."
  steps={[
{
  name: "Check the connection",
  text: "Connect your Slack workspace to Confidence and add the Confidence app to your channel.",
},
{
  name: "Ask Confidence",
  text: "Mention @Confidence followed by a question in a channel, or message the app directly.",
},
{
  name: "Follow up in the thread",
  text: "Continue in the same thread. Mention @Confidence again for channel follow-ups.",
},
]}
/>

Experiment questions often start in Slack. Someone wants to know whether a test has finished, which flag controls a feature, or where users struggle.
Ask Confidence in the same conversation to get experiment results, flag details, analytics, and recording evidence.

## Before You Begin

Your organization must connect its Slack workspace and add Confidence to your channel. You can follow [Connect Your Slack Workspace](/docs/platform/notifications/integrate-slack) and [Add Confidence to a Slack Channel](/docs/platform/notifications/add-confidence-to-slack-channel).
You also need access to the connected Confidence workspace, and your Slack and Confidence accounts must use the same email address.

If your organization connected Slack already, you can start asking questions.
Connecting your personal Slack account for notifications is a separate setting.

## Ask a Question

Mention `@Confidence` followed by a question:

```text theme={null}
@Confidence Which experiments are currently running on checkout?
```

Confidence gathers relevant context and responds in a thread.

</Frame>

Other starting points:

* "Summarize the results of the onboarding experiment."
* "How is the checkout-v2 flag configured?"
* "Which metrics does this experiment use?"
* "What does sample ratio mismatch mean?"

## Continue the Investigation

Ask follow-up questions in the same thread. Mention `@Confidence` again when replying in a channel:

```text theme={null}
@Confidence Break those results down by platform.
@Confidence What uncertainty should we consider before deciding?
```

Confidence carries the conversation context forward, so you don't need to repeat the original question.
Use links to the underlying Confidence resources when you need a closer look at results or configuration.

## Move From Discussion to Action

Ask Confidence to help configure resources or prepare an experiment:

```text theme={null}
@Confidence Create a feature flag called new-checkout-flow
with control and treatment variants.
@Confidence What do we still need to test this change?
```

Confidence can identify relevant flags and metrics, ask for missing information, and help prepare the setup.

</Frame>

Actions use your existing Confidence permissions. When an action requires approval, review the proposed change before confirming it.
Available tools depend on your account settings and permissions.

## Investigate Product Behavior

Use [Insights](/docs/capabilities/insights/overview) and [Recordings](/docs/capabilities/recordings/overview) to explore what users experience:

```text theme={null}
@Confidence Have users been struggling with metric setup?
Check recordings and analytics.
@Confidence Show the drop-off data and summarize what the recordings reveal.
```

Confidence can bring the data and recording evidence together in the thread.
These requests depend on the data and features available in your Confidence workspace.

## Message Confidence Directly

Open the Confidence app in Slack and send it a direct message. You don't need to mention `@Confidence` in a one-to-one conversation.
Group direct messages aren't supported.

Direct messages use your personal Confidence workspace selection.
This selection is separate from the connection used for personal notifications.

## Choose a Confidence Workspace

If your Slack workspace connects to multiple Confidence workspaces, Confidence might ask you to select one.
In a channel, send one of these messages:

| Message | What it does |
| - | - |
| `@Confidence /workspace` | Shows the current and available workspaces. |
| `@Confidence /workspace <name>` | Selects a workspace for the channel. |
| `@Confidence /workspace reset` | Clears the channel's selection. |

The selected workspace applies to everyone using Confidence in that channel.
In a direct message, the same commands set or clear your personal default. You can omit the `@Confidence` mention in DMs.

## Understand Access and Visibility

Confidence checks each person's permissions, including when several people ask questions in the same thread.
Installing the Slack app doesn't grant additional access to Confidence resources.

Responses in channels are visible to channel members. Use a direct message or an appropriate private channel for confidential questions.
Review important findings before making decisions or changing production resources.

## Receive Automatic Updates

Questions are separate from automatic notifications. To receive updates without asking:

* [Personal Slack Notifications](/docs/platform/notifications/connect-personal-slack) for mentions, replies, and review requests.
* [Create an activity feed](/docs/platform/notifications/create-activity-feed) for resource changes.
* [Configure surface notifications](/docs/capabilities/surfaces/configure-surface-notifications) for activity on a surface.
* Use [Pulses](/docs/capabilities/insights/overview#keep-track-with-pulses) for refreshed analytics summaries.
